Safety

Sugar Reset Side Effects and When to Stop

Quick answer

Sugar Reset's possible side effects come from a few of its ingredients.

Know about caffeine from guarana and green tea, a licorice compound that can raise blood pressure, and possible lows with insulin or diabetes pills. Xylitol is dangerous to dogs.

Stop and call a clinician if anything feels wrong. Check who should ask first.

The short version

What are the side effects of Sugar Reset?

Nobody has studied Sugar Reset itself, so no side effect rate exists for it. What we can do is look at each of its 23 actives and nine other ingredients and list what each is known to cause.

Most amounts are small. The blend holds 22 ingredients in 200 mg per 1 mL serving, about 9 mg each on average. Small does not mean zero, though. Caffeine adds up with coffee and tea, licorice compounds can matter even in small amounts for some people, and any blood sugar effect stacks on top of diabetes medicines.

The likeliest complaints are the ordinary ones: jitters, trouble sleeping, an upset stomach or a headache. The rarer ones are serious enough to know by name.

Ingredient by ingredient

Which Sugar Reset ingredients can cause side effects?

Ceilings come from label order (our math, not a lab test), per 1 mL serving.

Known effects of Sugar Reset ingredients, from the sources linked in each row. Effects in research often came from much larger doses than these ceilings.
IngredientMost per servingWhat it can cause
Guarana (3rd)About 67 mg extract; caffeine not printedNausea, insomnia; high doses linked to heart rhythm changes and high blood pressure (MSKCC, Guarana)
Green tea extract (7th)About 29 mgNausea, belly discomfort; rare liver injury (NCCIH, Green tea) (LiverTox, Green tea)
Licorice compound (18th)About 11 mgHigh blood pressure and heart rhythm problems (NCCIH, Licorice)
Panax ginseng aerial (12th)About 17 mgInsomnia is the most common effect; may affect clotting (NCCIH, Asian ginseng)
Gymnema (8th)25 mgPossible rare liver injury (LiverTox, Gymnema)
Capsicum, coleus forskohliiAbout 20 mg, 22 mgStomach irritation; loose stools (MSKCC, Cayenne) (NIH ODS, Weight loss supplements)
L-arginine (16th)About 13 mgMay lower blood pressure and blood sugar (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine)
Chromium (own line)0.7 mcgMay add to diabetes medicines (NIH ODS, Chromium)
Xylitol (other ingredient)Not publishedDangerous to dogs; a heart-risk link in one study, association only (FDA, Xylitol and dogs) (Witkowski, Eur Heart J 2024)

The licorice compound and the eight amino acids have their own page: licorice and amino acids.

Caffeine and licorice

How much caffeine and licorice could Sugar Reset contain?

Guarana is the third-heaviest blend ingredient, so it can be up to about 67 mg of seed extract per serving. The caffeine inside is not printed. FDA says 400 mg of caffeine a day is not generally linked to harm in most adults, though sensitivity varies (FDA, Caffeine). Count Sugar Reset as one more source if coffee already keeps you up.

The licorice compound, monoammonium glycyrrhizinate, sits 18th, so at most about 11 mg. NCCIH notes that even small amounts of glycyrrhizin have been linked to severe effects in people with high blood pressure (NCCIH, Licorice). More on the green tea and guarana page.

Diabetes medicines

Can Sugar Reset lead to low blood sugar?

On its own, probably not much. With insulin, a sulfonylurea or a meglitinide, the risk is real: the ADA warns some supplement ingredients can intensify diabetes medicines and cause lows (ADA, Vitamins and supplements). For many people, low means below 70 mg/dL, with shakiness, hunger, dizziness, confusion or a fast heartbeat (NIDDK, Hypoglycemia). Treat a low right away. Very high readings with extreme thirst or confusion need prompt care. Never change a diabetes medicine on your own.

Warning signs

Which Sugar Reset side effects mean you should stop?

Liver

Dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, belly pain

Green tea extract liver injury usually starts 1 to 6 months after a product is begun (LiverTox, Green tea). Stop and call a clinician the same day.

Heart

Racing or irregular heartbeat

Caffeine can cause palpitations (FDA, Caffeine), and glycyrrhizin has been linked to heart rhythm problems. Seek care if it does not settle.

Sugar

Shaky, sweaty, confused

Check your glucose if you can. Treat a low first, then call your care team before the next dose.

Everyday

Jitters, poor sleep, upset stomach

Drop to 1 dropper, take it in the morning, or stop. These often fade once the caffeine source is gone.

At home

Is Sugar Reset dangerous for pets or other people in the house?

Yes, for dogs. Sugar Reset contains xylitol. In dogs it triggers a rapid, deep drop in blood sugar, sometimes within 10 to 60 minutes, with vomiting, weakness or seizures (FDA, Xylitol and dogs). Call a vet right away if a dog chews the bottle.

For children, the label says keep out of reach. For pregnancy, large amounts of licorice are unsafe (NCCIH, Licorice) and capsicum supplements are advised against (MSKCC, Cayenne). Our who it's for page lists who should ask a physician first.

FAQ

Sugar Reset side effects: common questions

What side effects can Sugar Reset cause?

No study of the product lists side effects, but its ingredients point to the likely ones: jitters, poor sleep, nausea or an upset stomach from caffeine and capsicum. Rarer risks include higher blood pressure from the licorice compound, lows with diabetes medicines and liver injury linked to green tea extract.

Can Sugar Reset cause headaches or jitters?

It can in caffeine-sensitive people. Guarana and green tea are both caffeine sources, and the label does not print how much caffeine a serving holds. Too much caffeine can cause headaches, jitters and a fast heartbeat. Try 1 dropper in the morning, or stop if it continues.

Is there licorice in Sugar Reset drops?

Yes. The blend lists monoammonium glycyrrhizinate, a compound from licorice root, 18th of 22 ingredients, so at most about 11 mg per serving. Glycyrrhizin can raise blood pressure and cause heart rhythm problems, and the sales page never mentions it. Ask first if you have heart or kidney disease.

Can Sugar Reset damage your liver?

Liver injury is rare, but two ingredients carry a flag. Green tea extract is a well-established cause of liver injury in case reports, and gymnema is a possible rare cause. Stop and call a clinician if you notice dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or belly pain.

Can Sugar Reset make blood sugar drop too low?

It could if you also take insulin, a sulfonylurea or a meglitinide. Chromium and L-arginine may add to those medicines. Watch for readings below 70 mg/dL with shakiness, sweating or confusion, and treat them right away. Tell your clinician before you start, never after a scare.

Is Sugar Reset okay with blood pressure medicine?

Check with your clinician or pharmacist. The licorice compound and caffeine may push blood pressure up, while L-arginine may add to blood pressure drugs. With nitrates or sildenafil, L-arginine can drop blood pressure too low. The amounts are small but not printed.

Is Sugar Reset toxic to dogs?

It can be. The drops contain xylitol, which causes a fast, dangerous drop in a dog's blood sugar, sometimes within an hour. Keep the bottle closed and out of reach, and call a veterinarian right away if a dog gets into it, even if it seems fine.
